I renamed this chapter differently because this chapter has brought so much joy to my heart. 😊 I read this chapter last night and I let out a few happy tears. Chapters 1-4 were a bit rough. They needed to be. It’s the perfect example of God: “we need to start digging the crud out of our eyes if we’re ever going to see the light again.” What I mean by that is, in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we need to have faith in the One who will get us there. I want to start off this blog post by giving you an acronym to follow:
What do each of those words mean to you? Well, it’s basically like an outline God has given us to follow. To start this race with God, we have to go through a trial of endurance. It states in Romans verse 4 that our trials our good for us because they will help us endure. When you are doing something difficult let’s say riding a bike, your goal is to be able to ride for 8 miles. How are you going to accomplish that? You have to take it increment by increment. Build yourself up and go a farther mile each time until you reach your goal. By doing this, you are building your strength. What happens when we build our strength physically? Our character changes as well. Once we reflect on the word daily and are spiritually fed, our hearts begin to morph into our image through Christ. Once we recognize our true identity in Christ, we are confident through Him and His cause, which was His sacrifice for our sins.
I absolutely love verse 5: “For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” We are so loved by our God. Yet we sin so much, we try to go our own way so much, He still calls out for each and everyone one of us. When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time. He was our knight in shining armor, our glorious friend who couldn’t stand living apart from us. Through the blood of God’s son, we were made friends with God. Doesn’t that just light up your soul with such a burning passion? God calls us His friend. That’s where I got emotional in case you were wondering.
I love this chapter because it is the truth: faith through God brings real joy. I want to leave on this verse. Take the time to reflect on the E.C.C.S I made. What words do you need to reflect on to be sure you’re right with God? And know you are loved tremendously.
“For since we’re restored to friendship with God, He will certainly save us from judgement. We are saved from our own enemies, our own sin.” Romans 5:10 NLT
