“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
Running is extremely difficult. I mean, the constant pacing, the balance it requires. Plus, those pesky rocks do not help any when you have to keep dodging them like bullets. I have been doing my best in training myself to run more than 30 seconds. Of course, become a marathon runner is not going to happen over night. It takes work, dedication, and lots of motivation in order for me to accomplish this goal. That is exactly how it is in following God. Three things we need to look at when it comes to “running the race.” Guess what our prize is? It is so much better than a gold medal or a huge trophy. It is our Heavenly Father. He is anticipating our arrival at the finish line. He is watching us breathe our lungs out with cheering hands. In order to get there, we need to navigate the race of Life the way He wants us to.
Lose the Baggage: In order to get into shape we need to let go of the heaviness that weighs us down. I lost 24 pounds of not just my physical weight, but I lost the baggage of sin that was holding me back from being my best. I was being held captive of the taunting laziness caused. I knew that I needed to break free from it. God promises us that once we accept that we are indeed sinners, He lets that baggage go. He no longer looks at our past, He makes us new: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
Training Time: The real challenge begins. I know, admitting you are at fault and letting go the heaviness baggage causes is so difficult, but keeping it off is much harder. You have to constantly watch your weight. A change of diet is a must as well. All the high calorie foods can no longer consume you. Plus, I’ve learned it is easier and better to work out when you do not want to. That is the same when it comes to following Christ. I know there are days where you do not feel like picking up your bible. There are days where it seemed so unbearable or you messed up for the thousandth time, you think how or why would God want to listen to you? Let me tell you something, that is the best time to talk to God. God is just not our God. He is our friend and mentor. He gave us His word as a guide. We are to pursue His word daily to strengthen ourselves in times where life or the enemy wants us to keep us down: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
KEEP RUNNING: The last thing….RUN! GO! GET OUT THERE! The race is ready…just take it! God wants you! He wants you to be a strong warrior for Him! There are days cramps and sicknesses will happen. That is NOT an excuse to stop! We need to run this race because the PRIZE is worth it all! It’s the prize that we should desire! You don’t need to be afraid or discouraged! This race isn’t a competition. There are NO LOSERS! God wants you to win the heart that is of Him! Because HE LOVES YOU AND WANTS YOU TO KEEP RUNNING! “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
