“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.”
1 Peter 2:15-16
Obedience is one of the most important qualities to have. Our parents and elders have all taught us important lessons and rules to follow. And just like many of us, we thought their rules and regulations were ridiculous. “What do you mean I can’t have friends over if I don’t clean my room?” Or “I don’t care what she says, I’m going to the movies with him anyway.” I know I have made many stupid mistakes when it came to rebelling against my parents. They make rules because they care about us. It’s very important to understand that when it comes to God as well. God made the 10 commandments so that we would be protected and reunited with Him. I made a mistake long ago of losing my purity at a young age. I still sometimes have a fear that a man of God or God Himself will be mad at me. God freely forgave me and I know I’m made pure again through His blood. Are there mistakes you made? Are there people in your life you have hurt because you decided to do the wrong thing instead of doing what was right? Just know God knows and still loves you. Today as we study obedience, think about some things you may have done or are doing that doesn’t equal obedience.
“Obedient to Only One God“: “Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not do so.” Judges 2:17
God continuously had to lend a helping hand to the Israelites and they continuously turned their back against God only to be in distress without Him due to them putting their trust and hope in “false gods”. We can put or make anything above God. It’s important that we don’t make things or places into “sanctuaries”. It’s very easy and dangerous in putting our full trust in that certain person or place because we feel “comfortable.” I have done it many times. That is when we are the most vulnerable to Satan. He uses that to his advantage and we become more attracted to the false sensation of sin instead of the perfect protection from God.
Be Obedient to Your Teachers: “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food.” Hebrews 5:12
It’s important to learn from our parents and teachers about things we don’t understand. What we learn from them will help us to grow our minds and bodies to able to teach others. What we learn as children will help us to teach our future children so one and so forth. Same with our spiritual bodies. How can we profess our faith if we aren’t actively learning about God? What we learn and remain obedient in His teaching will help us to reach out to others.
Jesus’s Obedience to His Father: “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:8
Jesus is the perfect example of what obedience is. He carried out His Father’s will (crucified for our sins) and showed the world how to pray, help, love, and give to those who were considered less than. He humbled Himself in order for us to have a relationship with Him. He willingly endured the pain this life causes and died for us. He chose a path not many of us would choose.
So, today choose to live in obedience. It will help further your life and the impact you leave on people who live only in Sin will become attracted by the good outcomes obedience will bring. 😊
