“Keep My Eyes On You.” By: Melodie Rose Jordan

I have been reading many devotions lately and all have pointed to one word: “season.” There are many times we go through trials that seem so unbearable. Like every day is a battle, and here you are trembling in your armor with your sword, surrendered against the world. Does it have to be like this? No. We don’t have to fight. We don’t have to do anything irrational. In fact, Jesus tells us in Psalm 46:10 that He just wants us to be simply still and trust in Him in the midst of our trials. God is a miraculous one I tell ya.

Today I read in Hebrews 12 and let me tell you this chapter seals the case when it comes to focusing on God through our difficult seasons. In verse 2 it reads: “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”‭‭ Hebrews‬ ‭12:2‬. Now you’re probably thinking: “Okay Mel, where are you going with this?” I’ll gladly show you!

You see, God wants us to focus primarily on Him in all circumstances. He knows what pain and trial we deal with on a day to day basis. Now, always focusing on Jesus is extremely difficult. It’s humanly impossible, but it can become a habit. It’s so easy for us to catch the first distraction that will ease our ache for a short while. Only to become disappointed. Then this becomes a cycle. God looks at that lifestyle with complete saddness. You see, He made a way to Him. It doesn’t have to be chasing around sin. We’re called to chase after Him.

The next verse in this chapter I found is so important: “Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” Hebrews‬ ‭12:3‬ ‭

Okay, wow! It states that Jesus endured our trials. He endured betrayal. He endured heart break. He endured pain. He went as far as to endure death. And He is telling you right now that you not need to be weak! Why be weak when the power of the Holy Spirit dwells inside of you?!

Lastly, this verse states: “Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:28-29‬ ‭

God has promised us a beautiful home. A place where there is nothing but peace. A place where we get to worship Jesus forever. Until then, we must praise our Father for all He has done. For going through the seasons we are facing now. Don’t be afraid anymore, believe! Trust in God, who has over come every obstacle and has promised us peace. Keep your eyes on the Lord.
