“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
Imagine Jesus in our modern day time coming up to you while you’re in the middle of a busy day and says, “Hi my Child, come with me and let’s carry our crosses together.” How would you respond? Would you risk leaving your job, family, and life as you know it behind? Well, that’s exactly what Jesus wants us to do. It’s so easy for us to go from day to day experiences and become..comfortable in our living environment. We kick off our shoes, sip a drink, and say, “Well, another day gone and passed! Time to start a new one.” How do you think God, you know the Creator of life, would respond to that statement? I’ll tell you it’s not going to be with rainbows and butterflies. You see, this life, our personal agendas, do not belong to us. They belong to the Author of our lives.
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
Jesus has called us to do some very important tasks. He calls us to make His people into disciples, love our neighbor, and more importantly, let go of our personal securities and follow Him. Do you have a personal relationship with God, or do you pray so you can get His stuff? Would you be satisfied with God granting you every desire of you heart, and then Him disappearing from your life? Do you love God with all your heart, mind, and strength or do you love the earthly blessings he bestows? Some heart wrenching questions. Believe me, I’ve had to examine my heart after a few.
God is not our genie. He is not our fairy Godmother. In fact, He isn’t just our God. God is our father and friend (John 15:15). God calls us his inheritance (Galatians 3:29). He gives us life (John 10:10)
You see, the most important aspect of God is that despite everything we do, whenever we sin, He still wants us. He promised He will would never walk away, He said He will supply us the strength, courage, and wisdom to take on our battles, and the most important thing, He is deeply in love with us. How overwhelming is that?
Take this time to pray to God and to thank Him for giving up His life so that we may be made in new. When Jesus said “it is finished” and took His last breath on Earth, He took His first breath (along with all of ours as new children of Christ) into Heaven. He is alive and working in your life right now! Don’t be afraid, because Jesus is with you! ❤️
